Oxford United Methodist Church: Church Assessment Findings compiled by consultant Rev. Jean Snyder (Feb. 26, 2017). Here is a summary of the major findings and suggestions from our Church Assessment Group meetings (in January and February). This report is based on meeting discussions, written questionnaires, written and verbal comments, church documents, and observations. Copies of the full report are available from the church office.

LEADERSHIP AND VISION – The current vision statement is: “Uniting in Jesus Christ, we spread God’s Love.” The Vision statement and Mission statement needs to be developed and be more specific. New leaders need to be identified, recruited, nurtured, and trained.

WORSHIP – Excellence in worship is essential. Need to review and redesign the Order of Worship, and focus on Radical Hospitality and the visitor’s experience. The Bell Choir is a highlight. Need more special music. Need to train liturgists more. Need smoother transitions in worship service.

FINANCES and FACILITIES – The sanctuary needs some updating and clean up. Check and replace sanctuary and entrance lighting. Concern over financial viability of the church: the income and expense levels, and low number of givers, and pastor and staff salaries and compensation.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRIES – Need to improve children and youth ministries and Christian Education programs (currently only offering Sunday School and VBS). Clean up library/cry room. Develop a youth group (junior high and high school). Consider hiring a youth director and renovate the youth room. Finances are a consideration.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES – Wednesday Community Meals is the main community outreach program and needs a few more volunteers for set up and serving the meal. New outreach and missions projects could be considered.
