“I come with joy to meet my Lord, forgiven, loved and free, in awe and wonder to recall his life laid down for me, his life laid down for me. As Christ breaks bread and bids us share, each proud division ends. The love that made us makes us one, and strangers now are friends, and strangers now are friends.” (Brian Wren, 1968)
In the Fall, “Back to School” time may bring up feelings of joy and excitement, as well as fear and uncertainty for children and their parents. For church leaders and pastors, we too might feel joy and excitement, and/or fear and uncertainty as we start another church year and prepare for our annual Church Conference (Oct. 4) with the District Superintendent.
We at Oxford United Methodist Church celebrate our highlights: our happy children in Sunday School, Children’s Church, and Vacation Bible School, our faithful bell choir who plays beautiful music on Bells and Brunch Sundays, our special Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday services (along with weekly Sunday services), our Community Meal every Wednesday night, and many small groups and seasonal activities too.
We at OUMC also face challenges: reaching new people and inviting them to worship and small group activities, maintaining our church building and finances, increasing our worship attendance and volunteer participation, and more. Church Conference is a time to celebrate ministry and also look closely at our church’s goals and direction for the next year and into the future. May God’s Spirit always move us in God’s direction for our church’s growth and outreach in our community.
Please pray for our church and leaders as we listen to Christ’s direction for our church, and actively invite new people to join God’s Church in worship and missions and ministry to our community and the world. May we always “come with joy” to worship and serve our Lord, Jesus Christ!
Grace and Peace,
“Because there is one bread (Jesus), we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.” 1 Corinthians 10:17
